The courier metric nobody tracks: collection accuracy
23 July 2026 · Tomás Oliveira
Most shops measure their courier on delivery speed. That is the number the courier reports, so it is the number that gets watched.
The more expensive failure happens earlier. A parcel is packed, marked shipped, and then missed at collection. The customer sees a tracking number that never updates. Support hears about it three days later, by which point the parcel has been sitting on your own shelf the whole time.
Track the gap between orders marked shipped and shipments that have a first tracking scan. If that number is consistently above two or three percent, the problem is in your building, not the courier's network.
It is the cheapest support ticket reduction available to most shops, and it costs nothing to start measuring.
